Teaching with Experience

Melissa Noe, B.S.Ed., CCA Licentiate

Melissa Noe is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in Dance Education. Her passion for dance began at a young age and has grown into a lifelong commitment to the art of dance and dance education.

Melissa has trained extensively in Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Modern, and Ballet. She has studied the Cecchetti Method of Ballet, along with other recognized ballet methodologies, for more than 35 years. She is a Certified Member and Licentiate of the Cecchetti Council of America, reflecting her advanced training, teaching expertise, and dedication to preserving the highest standards of classical ballet education.

Melissa's accomplishments include earning Cecchetti Method examination certifications through Professional Intermediate in both the Student and Teacher divisions. She has successfully completed Student Grade I through Professional Intermediate examinations, as well as Teacher Grade I through Professional Intermediate, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in both performance and dance education.

Melissa was a member of the Romeo Civic Ballet Company under the direction of Mary Sherman for many years. During her time at Bowling Green State University, she also performed with the University's Dance Alliance and Dance Ensemble, further expanding her performance experience.

Her pre-professional and professional performance credits include The Nutcracker with the Macomb Symphony Orchestra, as well as Paquita, Coppélia, Swan Lake, Pas de Quatre, and Les Sylphides. These opportunities allowed her to perform the classical ballet repertoire while developing the artistry, discipline, and technical excellence that continue to shape her teaching philosophy today.

Throughout her career as both a performer and dance educator, Melissa has remained committed to lifelong learning. She has attended numerous dance intensives, workshops, and college dance festivals in major cities across the United States and has studied with distinguished artists from around the world, including Spain, Russia, Australia, and England. This ongoing pursuit of education allows her to bring current teaching methods, refined technique, and a broad artistic perspective to her students, ensuring they receive the highest quality dance education in a positive and supportive environment.

As a dance educator, Melissa has taught throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Her extensive teaching experience includes serving as the Associate Director of a local dance studio for 20 years, Dance Director for The Performing Arts School of Metropolitan Toledo, and instructor for the Toledo Opera Summer Camps.

In addition to her teaching roles, Melissa has served as an adjudicator for cheerleading and dance teams, as well as pre-professional ballet companies. Through her involvement with the Eastern Michigan Committee of the Cecchetti Council of America, she has dedicated countless hours to volunteering at ballet examinations, Ballet Days, Ballet Festivals, competitions, and International Summer Intensives. She also served as the Head Counselor for the Cecchetti Council of America's International Summer Intensive, further demonstrating her commitment to dance education and the development of young artists.

Today, Melissa is the proud Owner and Artistic Director of Melissa's Dance Academy in Waterville, Ohio. She is passionate about providing exceptional dance education in a positive, encouraging, and structured environment where every dancer is given the opportunity to grow technically, artistically, and personally.

Melissa believes that proper dance education is built on a strong technical foundation, positive instruction, and a thoughtfully structured syllabus that safely progresses with the natural development of the human body. By emphasizing correct technique, musicality, artistry, and progressive learning, she helps dancers build confidence, strength, and a lifelong appreciation for the art of dance while promoting healthy movement and injury prevention.

A firm believer that great teachers never stop learning, Melissa continues to pursue professional development and advanced training throughout her career. Her dedication to lifelong education allows her to provide the highest quality instruction while inspiring each student to achieve their personal best. This commitment to excellence, proper technical training, and the holistic development of every dancer remains the foundation of Melissa's Dance Academy.

Positive Environment

Dance is for everybody. I believe that the dance came from the people and that it should always be delivered back to the people. – Alvin Ailey

Melissa's Dance Academy believes in providing positive, proper dance training through a structured dance syllabus that safely progresses with the natural development of the human body. This approach helps dancers build not only strong technical skills but also a deeper knowledge and understanding of the movements they learn.

We take pride in teaching our dancers that mastering each step before moving on to the next creates a strong foundation for long-term success. By progressing one skill at a time, dancers develop greater strength, confidence, and artistry while reducing the risk of injury as they continue to grow and advance in their dance education.
